Ted Nelson of Faribault was the first Minnesota athlete to run a mile in less than four minutes and only the 20th American when he accomplished the feat in 1966.  The former state champion had a storied athletic career at Mankato State College and competed in the Indoor World Championships in the 800-meter run.  The retired firefighter was among more than 100 Minnesota athletes who qualified for the Olympics and World Championships interviewed by Patrick Mader for his two award-winning books.
Come learn about Minnesota’s rich sports heritage and how these remarkable athletes contribute to our state history and give back to their schools, community, and sport.  Patrick will also be sharing his insights on members of the 1980 Miracle on Ice gold medal hockey team and people from the region who have qualified for the Olympics in wrestling, hockey, running, and basketball.
