Two books by Patrick Mader on Minnesota athletes who have competed on the world stage will be available for viewing in the main lobby at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul as many women are recognized for their contributions to sports in the state. Coaches, athletes, reporters, administrators, and boosters in commerce, industry, and education who have encouraged girls and women to be fit and compete will be honored. Approximately 40 women are profiled in Patrick’s two books including basketball star Lindsay Whalen; Olympic cross country ski medalist Jessie Diggins; the Liz Parr-Smestad, first Minnesota woman to be on a national bobsled team; 3-time Olympic soccer medalist Briana Scurry; and hockey stars now playing professionally, Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek.
