Free Maple Grove Library Presentation on Title IX History, Growth of Girls’ Sports

Patrick “Packy” Mader, the author of two books on Minnesota Olympians and writer of profiles on Minnesota Athletes will be presenting a program with guest speakers Emily Shilson, an All-American wrestler and winner of international competitions, and Diane Scovill, a three-sport athlete at the University of Minnesota in the 1980s, at Maple Grove Library on Thursday, September 29th.

The history of the cases leading to the passage of Title IX and the explosive growth of girls’ high school sports will be highlighted and many Minnesota women Olympians will be featured in the Power Point slide show.  Packy was one of a select few interviewers contracted by the Minnesota Historical Society for their Minnesota Women in Sport Oral Histories Project.  He had the privilege of interviewing 22 women who had a significant influence on sports in our state.
