Growth of Girls’ sports in Minnesota Receiving Attention in 50th Year Since Passage of Title IX in Minnesota

Selected as one of five interviewers by the Minnesota Historical Society, Patrick “Packy” Mader had the privilege of having conversations with women athletes for the Minnesota Women in Sport Oral Histories Project in 2022.  Among the influential people interviewed were Peggy Brenden, the St. Cloud tennis player, who originated the suit against the Minnesota State High School League for the right to participate in high school sports; Olympians Kara Salmela (biathlon; Elk River), Kris Kuehl (discus; Storden-Jeffers), and Anna Ringsred (speedskating; Duluth); and multiple-sport athletes Annie Adamczak (Moose Lake), Diane Scovill (St. Paul), and Janet Karvonen (New York Mills).
